Here's a nice silicon MKII variant from Reeves Electro - who are most famous for their insanely well made point to point construction fuzzes.

The voice (mids) switch is basically switching between a 10n and 100n coupling cap after Q1 (buffer). The second switch is swapping between a pretty standard MKII and something similar to a Jen Fuzz (diode clipping on the output).
He does mention that the diodes are germanium in the video - so take your pick between what's listed on the BOM from the pub supplier or the words from Mr Reeves mouth.
Reeves also use a C1016 transistor for Q1 - probably just looks good, as it's a buffer, don't expect to impart much to the sound.
Optimal setting is both switches in the same direction.
