STROMBERG CARLSON: AU-58 Valve Amplifier

Unfortunate update.   The person I was buying this off accidentally dumped it for scrap before I could pick it up…  damn

-------------------------------

If you're wondering why I haven't been posting vero layouts - I have been busy finishing some customer orders and researching a few things (not to mention life in general).  I'm about to delve into the rabbit hole that is valve amps - just picked this Stromberg Carlson amp from the fifties up for $50 from marketplace  (still need to collect it).

Depending on how things go, I may post here, not sure yet.  Apart from this beast that will probably sit on a shelf for an extended period of time before I tackle it.

  1. I’d love to see the end result. Just to see the work. Maybe an audio demo??

  2. I also used to be skeptical about the high voltages (that is how it is at the start, until you get used to it), but it will never be your fault that someone does something stupid and electrocute them self!
After all: The schematics normally indicate the voltages so there is absolutely no excuse for morons to blame anyone than them self, if such happens.
    Share the schematics!
How people use it is not your responsibility!

    1. The schematic will be about the same as the one that can be found online. It's probably more about sharing a how to, incase someone tries and fails in a massive way - or maybe my instructions are not clear enough. I have accidentally uploaded incorrect layouts before, or just published mistakes. I don't want to do that with lethal voltages.

  3. I have a vox ac4tv that I plan on converting to hand wired as well. The flimsy pcb that come in them is so bad I'm afraid its going to break just replacing the tubes. Its a horrible design to start with....everything being attached to the pcb...but then add the quality of the board itself and its a joke.

    1. Yep, they're cheap and you get what you paid for. I'm hoping to change that a little, but not break the bank with excessively expensive parts. There will be no Mercury Magnetics transformers installed. $$$$.
