POWER UTILITY: Power Filter / Capacitance Multiplier, Point to Point and Vero Layouts

Power your fuzz / high gain circuits with noise problems from this.  Like most things, it's not a silver bullet for your problems, but it will probably help.

Here's a better technical explanation than I will ever manage.  There's a few variations of this circuit - google is your friend if you want to find out more.

TLDR:  It will reduce ripple on DC power supplies a lot.

  1. Hi Andy, nice blog.

How to choice value for that resistor and caps? I was do like this just for protection because 1N581X is hard at that time. Hahaha https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gtUJdsD9Fng/X1KMYq5YUBI/AAAAAAAAA-g/fZ7MvDyiAocQtUoLSQUk_-xxr2-adWoegCLcBGAsYHQ/s0/protect.jpg

Have idea for versatile fuzz for stoner, that isnt muff, superfuzz and not use Ge trannies? As fuzzrite and bosstone long user, i build Carcossa and fuzzly bear for my friend, but she want more! Doh!

    Thanks

  2. Thanks Febri,

The discussion on FreeStompBoxes covers this well. Thanks for sharing the circuit, there's a few different options out there. There's also some good explanations on youtube.

Have you tried the Spaceman XFuzz? Very simple, sounds much bigger than it looks. That might be interesting for your friend. The Foxx Tone Machine can also do stoner sounds. The Aion Electronics version is best, as it has a mid switch.

    1. Sorry - that should be Deadastronaut Xfuzz, not Spaceman... astronauts, spaceman... same same

  3. Hi! the diode here is only for polarity protection?

    1. Hello. Yes, the diode is for polarity protection. A 1N5817 would be better, but I was just following the design provided.

  4. thanks for your quick response. I have 8.9v in v+ out but when it is connected to the board it drops to 2.2v... weird... any idea what it could be?

  5. That is odd - not sure what might be happening there, as it’s a pretty small circuit. Is it still low when you bypass the input diode?

  6. Hello Andy
    Found this. https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgG8Kcw99qIxzmyS_C8j8bK16k3ePk3e3t8VCHc_8vvpP3K1hlPQJvGQpaLmGKhl6wRjEHWOELLPuWx9reqHHJLkG01QC8uPvuJxIPCI-EAHDI89dewvXanWEjyPsMjjtrW27JZCtljuuCAVjjtHdForldwBuRFBfmNFXcyhtGTW52FyAAMtNRzbLHdtQ/s1600/power-conditioner.png

    Still need C2 or not?
    Thanks.

Ps: Thanks for some spice files too. Nice resources.
