The WEM Pep Box, most famously used by the Beatles back in the day - a nice early English fuzz.

If you don't have a 500k pot for volume, use a 50k pot and remove the 56k resistor from V3 to ground. The earlier versions used 12.5uf capacitors, so 10uf caps will be fine. Like a few things of this vintage, you may need to play with biassing a little, or it could just fire up and work first go. There should be enough room to sneak in a 1M resistor to ground on the input too if you would like to include that as a modern addition.

note: the 100k trimmer was a 56k resistor in some units.
