Since I'm on a Fuzz Face thing at the moment - the JB Fuzz Face is basically Soviet-era germanium transistors with trimmers. Soviet transistors definitely have a slightly different texture to them when it comes to fuzz.

Which fuzz face to make depends on which germanium transistors I can find, not which ones I like
I usually list them as people would like to know what's in the circuit, and I mostly assume people will grab whatever they have access to and give it a try. Most of the time I breadboard fuzz faces to test transistors, as they can be hard to get right.
